Sapphire machine hiking

I need help to troubleshoot my 1996 Harley Davidson 1200 Sportster speedometer.? - can you take a mag light on an airplane

The speedometer is not in my 96 '1200 Sportster work, but reading the electronic odometer and the backlight still works well. The first thing I got was the Mag Pick-up area and the metal chips that were clean on him. Ran, and still no dice. I need to get the voltage and resistance numbers, then I can fix it with a multi meter. I do not just start throwing parts until it works so any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
